Files Too Large or Too Small

Using different or multiple devices to record and upload videos to Vimeo can cause problems because different devices use different aspect ratios and sizes.

File size problems are best avoided by using a single device to record and limiting video length to 5 - 7 minutes. If your video needs to be longer, split it into smaller parts and label them appropriately.

It is recommended that you use a built in laptop camera, webcam, or handheld camera for recording purposes.

Mobile Device Problems

A Vimeo Basic account only allows uploading from a desktop so attempting to upload a file from a mobile device will not work. Move the file from your mobile device to your desktop before attempting to upload it.

It is recommended that you use a built in laptop camera, webcam, or handheld camera for recording purposes.

Long Uploading Times

This problem can be avoided by using only one device for the recording and restricting the length of your video to a maximum of five to seven minutes. If your recording needs to be longer, break the video into smaller parts (i.e. Part 1 and Part 2) before uploading.

If you are still having trouble with long uploading times, check your internet connection and try using a wired connection with an Ethernet cable.

Privacy/Sharing Problems

If others are having trouble viewing your video or sharing it, check your privacy settings. Step-by-step instructions on how to change your privacy settings can be found in the Creating an Account article.

Resources

If you need to record sound only, Vocaroo is recommended.

If you need a handheld video camera or flipcam to record, you can check them out from the ITS Help Desk in Nicarry 125 or email.
