AutoFill a Series - Excel
Excel has a feature called AutoFill that allows you to fill a contiguous group of cells with ascending numbers or other related information. For example, you can fill a column with numbers starting at 1 and going down to 2, 3, 4, etc. Here's how to use AutoFill and what to do when it's not working. This article shows Excel 2016, but this process also works in Excel 2013 & 2010.

Not Working?
Check that AutoComplete and AutoFill are enabled.

There is a keyboard shortcut that disables AutoFill so that the last number in the selected range will be copied, rather than continuing the series. Press [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [L] to toggle between activating and deactivating Fill Series. You can also check under Options:

Step 1:Click the File tab and select Options
Step 2:
Click Advanced from the menu on the left.
Step 3:
Under Editing options, make sure there is a check next to Enable fill handle and cell drag-and-drop, Alert before overwriting cells, and Enable AutoComplete for cell values.
Step 4:
Click OK.
